first post

I'm sitting at DIA wondering why there's so much interest in blogs?  I've only read Phil Ayers blog a handful of times, http://improving-nao.blogspot.com/, and haven't really spent much time looking at other blogs.  Nonetheless, I'm thinking it's time.  So.  this is my chance to jump in :)
